Arise, Sir David Beckham: Beckham Knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle Ceremony

David Beckham was bestowed with a knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. The former England captain, 50, was among those accepting honours for his contributions to sport and charity. In recent months, he stated he was “extremely honored” of being acknowledged in the King’s birthday honours.

Soccer Achievements

The player first appeared in England's top division for Manchester United in the mid-nineties and was part of the team that secured a thrilling European Cup win in 1999 when they defeated the German giants with two late goals.

Overall, he netted eighty-five scores and collected honours including six Premier League titles and two FA Cups as a footballer, before retiring from the sport in the past decade. Alongside his football career, he has backed a number of charity causes, including serving as a charitable representative for global aid group Unicef since 2005.

Philanthropy and Beyond

In the previous year, the sports star, who has referred to himself as a “huge royalist”, was appointed an official representative for the King’s Foundation, an educational charity established by the King in 1990. In the late nineties he was declared top fashion icon by a leading publication and he has posed for companies such as the fashion retailer, the Italian designer, and the luxury label.

David tied the knot with Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the couple have a family of four kids together – Brooklyn, the second son, the third child, and Harper.
