Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found plenty of entertaining independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a piece of poop striving to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty stages, battle boss fights and visit a market to acquire outfits for your fecal avatar.
Time your movements carefully, as a error requires starting over. Jump off air pockets to hurl your character to new heights, navigate crumbling platforms, and interact with triggers to reveal hidden paths. Gather UN-KOINS and use them on more difficult game content in which gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the experience boasts vibrant level designs and catchy music score. Its minimalist visual style featuring morphing basic polygons could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears heavily in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on computers on November 19.
